The FAFSA is now open for any students who are planning to apply for financial aid for college! Head over to fafsa.gov to start your application! Remember, each student/parent filling out the FAFSA needs to create an FSA ID prior to filling out the FAFSA. You can find more information about that on the WHS Counselor webpage. It's also important to get your FAFSA filled out early to ensure you make the financial aid priority deadlines for the colleges/programs you apply for!

Today WHS hosted a college/post-secondary fair! Freshmen through Seniors were able to participate and ask questions of the representatives from a wide range of colleges and programs in attendance after braving the storms to come visit with our students! Some of the different colleges/programs that attended were KU, KSU, Fort Hays Tech, Emporia State, Wichita State, Cloud County CC, Manhattan Fire Department, Wab. Co. Sheriffs Dept., MATC, Newman University, KS AirGuard and many others! It's never too early, or too late, to start making plans for after high school! GO CHARGERS!

During the Holiday Season, we reflect on the blessings in our lives and the importance of gratitude and sharing. For many of us, this time also brings poignant reminders of loved ones who are no longer with us, especially those who have been taken by cancer. Recently, I was visited by a group dedicated to supporting families in the Wabaunsee community who are facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. The Caring Neighbors organization, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was established by community members in 2015 to offer financial assistance to individuals and families navigating this difficult journey. The Caring Neighbors Cancer Fund helps defray expenses not covered by health insurance, such as deductibles, co-pays, and travel costs associated with treatment. This entirely volunteer-run organization operates without administrative costs, ensuring every dollar donated goes directly to those in need. The committee members, some of whom have experienced their own cancer battles, are committed to making a difference while maintaining the utmost confidentiality for those they assist. If you or someone you know needs this support, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Applications are simple and only require a meeting with two committee members. Assistance is available to Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee counties residents with a cancer diagnosis. For more information or to request help, you may contact: Chris Day at 785-456-5325 Donna Goehring at 785-458-9205 Let’s come together as a community to share this resource and support our neighbors in their time of need.
